Fifth Year Students of Spanish Take a Trip to ‘el cine'

February 21st saw a group of fifth year students heading to An Draíocht to see an award-winning film called ‘La Jaula de Oro’. ‘La Jaula de Oro’(‘The Golden Dream’) is a Spanish language film about teenage immigrants who leave Guatamala in a determined search for a better life in the U.S. The plot concerns immigration to the U.S from Latin American countries. It was an enlightening and thought-provoking outing to the cinema and here are some student responses to the film:

‘What stunned me most about the film were the difficulties the teenagers as young as me had to endure. It made me realise how lucky and privileged I am and how much I take for granted.’

‘Having watched this película, I am now more grateful for my education and how easy I have it compared to those who have to leave home at a young age for a better opportunity.’

‘A very sad and moving film-I didn’t know much about the huge number of people who cross the border into America and risk their lives in doing so.’
