**1st Year Newsletter, Summer 2019**

 Welcome to all our new First Year students.

We are looking forward to meeting all of our new first year students and their Parents/Guardians as you begin your studies in St. Peter’s College. The thought of starting post primary school can be daunting but please be assured that we have our team of Monitors (Transition Year students) who are ready to provide support, advice and guidance as you make the transition from primary to post primary school. Throughout the academic year, the Monitors will work closely with the students, Tutors and the Year Head, Ms N. O Reilly, to ensure that the transition into St. Peter’s College is not only smooth, but also an enjoyable and positive experience.

The following information will be of assistance as you prepare to enter St. Peter’s College:

First Year students meet with Tutors and teachers. All students should be wearing their full school uniform.

Students go directly to the Community Centre


9.00 – 10.30

Parents and Guardians to meet with Principal, Deputy Principals, Year Head and Tutors.

Tuesday, 27th August: First year students will commence at St. Peter’s College. Students should wear their full uniform and bring a snack and drink for break time. Please ensure that you have a reusable bottle as single use plastics are not permitted. You should also have a school bag and pencil case with you. Lockers and timetables will be issued on the first morning.

Wednesday, 28th August: Students return on Wednesday wearing PE uniform. Bring your school bag and pencil case.

Junior uniform consists of the St. Peter’s College round neck jumper, kilt for girls, navy trousers for boys and white shirt. All students must wear the school coat. Please visit parents tab of school website to get further information on school approved trousers for boys, available from Leddy uniforms. Junior students are not permitted to wear makeup or have facial piercings.

PE Gear: All students are to wear school PE gear for PE and all school sports events. SPC polo shirt, hoodie, shorts & socks are all available to purchase at Dunboyne Sports & Leisure, Main St, Dunboyne and should be worn with plain navy/black tracksuit bottoms or active/sportswear leggings. No cotton leggings – please see Parents section on website for further details.

School Footwear: Students will only be permitted into school in appropriate footwear. Any student who wears inappropriate footwear will be offered school approved footwear or will be removed from classes until appropriate footwear is available. Please see the school website for a comprehensive guide to appropriate footwear.

Please ensure that all items of uniform and PE gear are clearly marked in two places with the student’s name.

Subject Options: In the event that a student wishes to change subject options, change of option forms will be available at the school office in September. Forms should be returned to the office by Friday, 20th September where they will be date and time stamped. Option changes will be processed in order of receipt. Please note that it is not always possible to make the changes requested.

New signing out procedure: From 30st August 2019, a Parent/Guardian or nominated adult must collect their child from the main office in order for their child to sign out during the school day. Students (including those over 18) should only be signing out during the school day for urgent medical appointments. Routine dental/orthodontic/physiotherapy appointments should take place after school.

Medical concerns: It is the responsibility of Parents or Guardians to alert the school to the medical conditions of their sons/daughters. Medical forms for completion will be issued in mid-August.

" >Student Services, Book Rental and Direct Costs: Parent/Guardians are asked to ensure that the fee for Student Services, Book Rental and Direct Costs is fully paid by Friday, 19th July. If full payment has not been received by this date, any part payment will be refunded and booklists will be forwarded home. The Board of Management of St. Peter’s College has agreed that all students wishing to participate in school tours must have paid their fee in full. Please contact the school Principal, in confidence, should you have any difficulty.

Contact Details: Each morning and afternoon the school sends an absence text to Parents/Guardians if their son/daughter is not registered for class. For this purpose, it is vital that the school has current contact details of Parents/Guardians to include a mobile phone number and email address. Please contact the school office if your contact details have changed and need to be updated on our school database.
