Walkability Audit

Green Schools Committee - Walkability Audit

On Monday 7th December, the Green Schools Committee took to the streets of Dunboyne to conduct a Walkability Audit of the area.

Firstly, we started by monitoring the travel habits of students coming to school.  We made notes on how many cars entered the school and we also made notes on whether students walking to school were doing so in a safe manner.

After that, we walked around a 1km radius of the school to check the ‘walkability’ of the area.  We were looking out for cracks in the footpaths, waterlogged areas and we also measured the width of some pavements close to the school.

We investigated some potential ‘park and stride’ areas too.  These are places near to the school where parents could drop students and they could walk the remainder of the way to school.  This would reduce traffic around the school gates in the morning time.

Now that we have gathered all of our information we are going to write a report.  Details of this report will be shared with all staff and students of St Peter’s College ASAP.

If you notice any health hazards along your school route, please report them to a member of the Green Schools Committee or Ms Griffin in room 47.   There is a list of committee members on the GREEN SCHOOLS NOTICEBOARD (Outside room 36)
